A photograph, followed by hand-painting: Pierre et Gilles have been creating their portraits this way for half a century. To mark fifty years of collaboration, the Templon Beaubourg gallery presents Rose pour toi, rose pour moi.
The exhibition brings together around twenty portraits created over the past two years. It shows how the duo continues to transform their subjects into characters, drawing on sacred figures, pop culture references and fictional worlds.
Among the works announced, Camille Cottin appears as Lady Macbeth. Lolly Wish portrays Mary Magdalene, while Ebony Osaz becomes The Black Star. A tribute to Renaud, titled Long Live Me, is also part of the selection.
Photographer Pierre Commoy and painter Gilles Blanchard met in 1976. Their work brings together photographic staging and painting on a single support. Colors, props and settings give each portrait its own narrative framework.
After Nuit électrique, devoted to nocturnal figures, this new exhibition revisits their approach to creating icons through a selection of recent works.
