These two archaeological sites house the remains of an ancient, powerful civilization. Over 3,000 years old, the Sanxingdui and Jinsha sites have yet to reveal all their secrets. In fact, between 2020 and 2022, archaeologists uncovered new, extraordinary treasures there—artifacts that will be exhibited outside China for the first time from November 18, 2026 to March 1, 2027.
The museum Guimet invites us to come and admire the Trésors de Sanxingdui et Jinsha. The exhibition reveals a rich and fascinating Chinese civilization, told through artifacts that are remarkably well preserved.
This exposition highlights discoveries from recent archaeological digs in Sichuan province. Visitors can admire masks, monumental bronzes, jade finely carved, ritual objects, ceramics, gold artifacts... The immersive immersive scenography foregrounds the many traditions and the rich culture of ancient China, while paying tribute to archaeological research that has lasted for nearly a century.
The tour delves into the key facets of this ancient civilization — cultural symbols, the craft of its artisans, legends and beliefs, rites and traditions, and the everyday life of the people who inhabited Sanxingdui and Jinsha, as well as the trade networks linking the region’s diverse cultures... These treasures offer historians rare insights, but many questions still linger.
As the exhibition unfolds, we discover cities and a rich, complex civilization, built on a long, storied history that spans several centuries. The objects on display also testify to the talent and craftsmanship of the artists and artisans of the time, who could create works of astonishing finesse with tools that today seem rudimentary.
The Guimet Museum also highlights the cultural richness of ancient China through the objects on display: a discerning eye can indeed distinguish regional peculiarities in the archaeological treasures, evidence of diverse and evolving cultures.
These treasures, rarely shown in France, are on display in Paris for only a few months. Don’t miss this special chance to explore the heritage of a bygone era.
