A quick nostalgia fix before the back-to-school rush? This summer, Christie’s Paris revisits the sixties through the lens of Jean-Marie Périer with Les belles années, a free photo exhibition installed in its spaces in the 8th arrondissement. A photographer inseparable from the Salut les copains generation, Jean-Marie Périer captured a stellar lineup of music, cinema and fashion idols. After a summer break, the exhibition reopens from 20 to 28 August 2026, Monday to Friday from 10h to 18h, at 9 avenue Matignon.
On the walls, 27 large-format photographs showcase some of the era’s most recognizable faces. Françoise Hardy, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Sylvie Vartan, or Mick Jagger sit alongside Salvador Dalí, Yves Saint Laurent, Thierry Mugler, Jerry Hall, and Vivienne Westwood. Périer treats both setting and personality with equal care, crafting his stagings and playfully bending the situations. He benefits above all from a genuine closeness to many of his subjects: he was notably the partner of Françoise Hardy, who remained a friend after their separation, and he was also very close to Jacques Dutronc. This complicity informs portraits where the icon occasionally reveals something more direct, more alive.
Last-minute flash before the season kicks off: Les belles années leaves Christie’s walls on August 28, 2026. A chance to rediscover these familiar faces through the lens of the photographer who captured them long before they became legends.
