Art goes off the beaten path at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, with Toi et ta bande, a collective exhibition to be discovered from October 21, 2026 to February 14, 2027. In the 16th arrondissement, the art center brings together artists and collectives who have chosen to create in the countryside, in the mountains, or on islands. Their common thread: making the place where they live a key part of their work, their encounters, and their commitments.
From the Cévennes to Guadeloupe, via Corsica, the Hautes-Pyrénées, and the Basque Country, the route gathers around twenty works, many created specifically for the occasion. These territories stand out as spaces where artistic projects flourish, mutual aid takes root, and collective experiences unfold. The landscape matters, but the people who live there matter just as much.
Borrowed from a work by Gina Proenza, the title of this exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo suggests different ways of forming a group: a choir, high school students, an artists’ collective, or a community gathered around a cause. Among the participants are Marine Peixoto, Elsa Brès, Marie Voignier, Pacôme Ricciardi and the Collectif Silo. Their approaches examine the links between creation, daily life, and collective organizing.
The curator Liza Maignan, joined by coordinator François Piron, leans on “topophilia” — the deep attachment we feel for a place. Behind the term lies a simple, accessible question: how does our environment shape what we create and the people with whom we do it? A program of encounters, concerts, and screenings in partnership with Tënk will broaden this inquiry throughout the season.
And you, where would you choose to create? A village, an island, or a shared studio—and that choice may already say a lot about the life you hope to lead.
