The Fondation Louis Vuitton, a mecca for contemporary art in Paris

Originally, the Fondation Louis Vuitton referred only to the luxury brand's corporate foundation, created in 1990. Twenty-five years later, the Foundation now has an identity, an entire building in its effigy. October 24, 2014 saw the grand inauguration of the Fondation Louis Vuitton, a project conceived byarchitect Frank Gehry, who was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1989.

A total of twelve translucent sails make up this immense glass-and-steel sailing ship, proudly overlooking the Jardin d'Acclimatation. Inside, there's room for creativity, with the desire from the outset of this project to make contemporary art accessible to all, in a space where the greatest painters and sculptors will be exhibited. Rothko, the prestigious collections of New York' s MoMa , Basquiat, Warhol... some of the world's greatest artists have been featured in group exhibitions and retrospectives.

For families, the Fondation regularly offers creative workshops and other activities designed for babies and children, especially on Wednesdays and during the school vacations. Guided tours of current exhibitions are also offered, some in French sign language (LSF). What's more, the Fondation is accessible to people with reduced mobility, and offers tours adapted to different disabilities.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton is open every day except Tuesday, and costs €16 for full admission, €10 for students and under-26s, and €5 for minors and the unemployed. Admission is free for disabled visitors (one accompanying adult permitted) and children under 3. For families, opt for the family rate of €32, including one or two adults and up to 4 children under 18.

The entrance to the Fondation Louis Vuitton is located outside the Jardin d'Acclimatation, onavenue du Mahatma Gandhi. The Foundation is served by public transport: Les Sablons station (line 1), with shuttle buses running from Charles de Gaulle Etoile station (exit no. 2 from the station) every 20 minutes or so, at a cost of €2 per person.
