Perched on the hillside, Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Church stands as a true historical gem within the town of Montreuil. Its origins date back to the 12th century, making it one of the few remaining medieval relics you can still admire in this suburb just outside Paris. The church was built atop the ruins of an earlier 8th-century Romanesque church.
Once a parish church of the Kings of France, it has survived through the centuries, bearing witness to the various historical events that gradually transformed it. After serving as a royal church, it played a role during the French Revolution, when it was converted into a Temple of Reason, before returning to its original function. Closed for four years, this historic monument recently underwent extensive renovations and consolidations, allowing it to once again shine as a treasured piece of the Île-de-France heritage.
To celebrate this reopening, a special inauguration weekend is planned at the Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Church on the weekend of March 7 and 8, 2026. Here's a detailed look at what's in store:
