The Grand Siècle refers to the era covering the 17th century in France, from the reign of Henry IV to the regency of Philippe d’Orléans, roughly 1589 to 1722 (according to Wikipedia). Marked by the Baroque style, the creation of the French formal garden style by André Le Nôtre, and the revival of tragedy in the theatre, this period remains vividly etched in memory, especially in artistic and cultural terms.
