Printemps des Cimetières is back all over France, and in Paris in particular, from May 16 to 18, 2025, to showcase these heritage sites while revealing various aspects that are often little-known to the general public, through free activities that highlight their landscape value, rich biodiversity and cultural interest, for the 10th edition of this event, on the theme of flora and fauna.
Of course, this highly diversified program is always held with the strictest respect for these places of remembrance and meditation for families, and also enables the Cemetery Service to present funeral professions and raise public awareness of theecological upkeep of the sites. Exhibitions, guided tours and accessible performances are just some of the ways in which you can rediscover cemeteries in a whole new way!
Stone engraving workshop/demonstration: Discover the techniques behind the inscriptions engraved in the Catacombs. Come and watch professional engravers and, why not, try your hand at engraving a letter or symbol on a stone to take away with you.
Guided tour of the Vaugirard cemetery: the Office National des Combattants et des Victimes de Guerre offers a guided tour of the Vaugirard cemetery, including the military squares it maintains and promotes. A time of meditation will be included.
Guided tour: discover the singular personalities and tombs of the Cimetière des Batignolles. This year, focus on the fauna, flora and biodiversity of this vast 11-hectare urban natural space with the "Groupement national de Surveillance des Arbres - Paris 17e"!
Biodiversity discovery: during a participatory workshop open to all, organized by agents from the city's Green Spaces Department, come and contribute to the flowering and development of the cemetery's biodiversity. Children and adults will be invited to throw "seed bombs", small clay balls containing the seeds of melliferous plants that help pollinating insects.
A refuge for urban biodiversity: Nicolas Robin, biodiversity referent for the Paris Cemeteries Department, invites you on a fascinating tour. Explore the Père Lachaise cemetery and discover how this emblematic site serves as a haven for a rich urban biodiversity. Learn more about the initiatives and efforts being made to preserve the flora and fauna in this unique space.
A storytelling tour in the footsteps of the cemetery's animals: young and old are invited to step into the shoes of the wild fox who regularly ventures into the cemetery, to meet the bestiary that populates it. This story, based on this eminently inhabited place, will introduce you to certain funerary myths linked to animals.
A day offree events, combining nature and culture, to transform the image of Parisian cemeteries . The full program can be found on the Printemps des Cimetières website.
