Thoiry Zoo's new lodges in Terres d'Afrique: an immersion among elephants

You may (or may not) be familiar with Thoiry's dens, where you can immerse yourself in the world of bears and wolves, in cabin mode in the middle of nature. A new, more comfortable and spacious offering is now available at Terres d'Afrique. Thoiry Zoo is launching its top-of-the-range ecological lodges. Imagine large, beautifully appointed apartment-houses where you can stay and sleep among the elephants.

Thoiry Zoo is constantly innovating, and the next 8 years will see some exciting projects. Starting with the redevelopment of the Safari trail, which will be greener and better adapted to the animals' well-being.

Thoiry Zoo has two new residents, Moyo and Jabu , who have joined Ben the elephant, who is now the oldest member of the family. Mayo is a 9-year-old elephant straight from a zoo in Germany, and Jabu, also a 9-year-old bull elephant, is from Sweden. These pretty arrivals mark the beginning of the park's new adventures.

In fact, a new zone called"Terre d'Afrique" (Land of Africa) has been created. A new immersive and educational project with plenty of appeal. From this autumn onwards, and starting with the All Saints' vacation season, a 3-hectare Elephant House and 5 comfortable lodges will open, allowing you to spend the night in the heart of the elephant domain.

The Elephant House has grown from its current 500 m2 to 1,400 m2 in this new area. Composed of 4 night boxes with state-of-the-art equipment, this house will enable overnight visitors to observe the elephants from high up, in complete discretion.

There will be 5 lodges, 2 of which can be divided into 2 studios. So you can bring a tribe of 10 and combine two lodges, or rent the studio part for a romantic getaway. In contrast to the more limited space of the dens, Terre d' Afrique's lodges are more spacious, offering accommodation for 2 to 10 people (including 1 adapted for disabled guests), with a private terrace facing the elephants.

The atmosphere is ethnic and refined, reminiscent of the vast territories of Africa. Wax fabrics, tadelakt walls, made-to-measure furniture and intricate details combine rustic and modern to create a very natural look. Children will be delighted to discover a playful cabin bed above the convertible living room sofa.

Ideal for families and adventure-seekers, these lodges offer complete immersion in the elephants' new territory. And the large, spacious terraces, perfect for an immersive lunch, add to the charm of the experience. In the evenings, live tablets let you stay in the company of the elephants in their House.

For the inauguration, it was a godfather at heart: Antoine Duléry who came to cut the cord. Following his collaboration with the park, he lends his voice to a film retracing the history of the "Terres d'Afrique" project, broadcast directly in the lodges.

Prices start at €680 for 2 people (€740 to €790 for 4). This includes 2 days' entry to the park, catering and entertainment. More than just accommodation, these lodges offer a truly immersive experience in the heart of nature. As well as elephants, you'll also be able to spot warthogs, wildebeest and antelope.
