At first glance, the Jardin Eugénie Djendi looks rather flat: a children's playground, tall trees and a monument to those who died in France's overseas operations (OPEX), which will be inaugurated in 2019. Designed as a labyrinth, this pretty square is divided into two parts: the upper part, where you can wander through the beautifully flowered corridors, and the lower part, which reveals green spaces hidden from view.
The garden's name is a tribute to Sub-Lieutenant Eugénie Djendi (1923-1945), a former radio operator with the Corps féminin des transmissions d'Afrique du Nord, who was parachuted into occupied France by the special services in Algiers. A notorious Resistance fighter, she was arrested and deported in August 1944, before being murdered at Ravensbrück in January 1945 (according to the City of Paris website).
Created in 1992, the Eugénie Djendi garden (composed of predominantly black plants and trees) contrasts with the Caroline Blanc garden, which features predominantly white flowers and plants.
The Eugénie Djendi garden is open every day, all year round, with opening times varying according to the season. It is fully accessible to strollers and people with reduced mobility. A beautiful green setting to discover without further ado in the 15th arrondissement, to spend an afternoon in the Parc André Citroën when the weather's fine!
