Disneyland Paris and Star Wars have a long love affair... With Star Tours: L'Aventure Continue and Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain still going strong every day, and an entire zone dedicated to the space saga planned for Disney Adventure World before being replaced (but we don't despair of seeing it arrive one day), here's Sortiraparis with a little anecdote you may not have known about...
This anecdote concerns the Star Tours attraction - the very first version - which opened on April 12, 1992, when the park was inaugurated. Did you know that C-3PO, the real and only C-3PO, was involved in the adventure in his own way? That's what his lifelong interpreter, Anthony Daniels, reveals in his autobiography Je suis C-3PO, les Souvenirs ne s'effacent pas, revealing his exclusive participation in both the American and French versions of the attraction.
So, he tells us (page 156 for those who have the book at home, published by Fantask) that Tom Fitzgerald called on him, in 1986, for the future attraction of Disney Parks worldwide, Star Tours. The attraction opened in the US parks the following year, in 1987. And what of Disneyland Paris? The actor talks about the recording of the 12-minute loop that ran in the attraction, in the queue: "Tom and I have a lot of fun recording this 12-minute performance, which ends up running on a loop in the parks, including Disneyland Paris", he explains.
He continues: "I record a French version. A few months later, we realize that the lines are twice as long in that language. So I re-recorded a shortened version to match the animatronics programming." As you might guess from reading these words, Anthony Daniels speaks French and is happy to give interviews in Molière's language when the opportunity arises.
Since then, of course, her voice has been replaced. But perhaps you were lucky enough to hear her in her attraction debut?
