In Fontainebleau, climbing is the crown jewel. So we head out to learn from a pro, during a session on France’s most famous boulders.

In the world of rock climbing, the Forest of Fontainebleau stands as one of the most beautiful spots in France and certainly in the world. "It all began here about a hundred years ago", explains Nicolas Grière, the founder of Climb with us. "The forest counts roughly 100 sectors, i.e. more than 30,000 routes and boulders", the expert notes. A mythical, legendary spot, accessible to all, including the youngest climbers, with rocks suitable from about 4 years old (roughly; it also depends on your child’s abilities).

With a goal of introducing people to the beautiful climbing routes in his playground, Nicolas offers sessions to discover climbing, to get started in the sport, while raising awareness about the ecological impact of this activity in the Fontainebleau forest (and sharing the best practices to protect it as much as possible). By the way, signing up for this initiation doesn’t necessarily require any prior experience: whether you’re a total beginner or already seasoned, the instructors tailor to your level!

Whether you’re with family, friends, or as a couple... the guided climbing sessions led by the four state-certified instructors at Climb with Us are open to everyone. Come in sportswear (and don’t forget a water bottle—there’s no drinking water in the Fontainebleau forest) and bring your climbing shoes if you have them (otherwise, rentals are included in the price). Expect €200 for a half-day for a group of one to four people.
