Lovers of typical, inexpensive Chinese cuisine are always a little orphaned when they enjoy a stroll along the Champs-Elysées. Oh My Noodle comes to the rescue in the 8th arrondissement with a chic canteen feel and a menu centered around the famous "Lamian", fresh Chinese wheat noodles from the Lanzhou region.
Oh My Noodle respects the tradition of these noodles, so popular in China, with a direct partnership with LanZhou's CHEN JI restaurant.
At the entrance to the restaurant, the chef puts on a show to attract customers and validate that the noodles are indeed homemade. The house uses ORGANIC flour, and you can see the bags of flour stored to the right of the restaurant entrance.
The chef works in the Lanzhou style, with a vigorously worked dough: stretched out in a straight line, with rapid gestures, the spectacle is clearly fun to watch. Throughout the day, the kitchen is busy producing noodles as orders come in.
For starters, the menu offers a variety of small steamed dishes, including the famous pork BAO, meaty enough to dip (or not!) in the chili sauce available on every table. You can also enjoy grilledravioli with chives and shrimps, also available in a steamed version.
The star dish of the house is undoubtedly the Lanzhou beef noodle soup.
A recipe of apparent simplicity that combines the famous noodles prepared by the chef with slices of Chinese white radish, melting slices of beef and an incredibly fragrant broth sprinkled with spring onion. The noodles are served with a spicy sauce if you want to follow tradition, and it's a real treat.
The menu offers many variations: lacquered pork, duck, chicken and even seafood.
You can also skip the soup and try the fresh noodles in WOK mode, stir-fried with an expressive seasoning, a few vegetables and a choice of beef, chicken, shrimp or extra vegetables for vegetarians. The noodles are not overcooked, a sort of Chinese-style al dente, with occasional noodles of irregular size (small, wide, long, short...), so if visually it's not super sexy, it's downright good and very hearty (even in shrimp!), with an appetizer it'll be hard to finish such a dish.
Those who frequent the neighborhood know that prices are a bit steep, but Oh My Noodle 's prices are affordable. In fact, the local clientele has already spotted the place, and it's packed to the rafters every lunchtime, so don't forget to get there early.
For lunch, there's a great takeaway offer with lunch boxes starting at €8.50. On the premises, dishes such as chicken sautéed with cashew nuts, beef sautéed with basil or sweet and sour shrimp sauté (13.50 to 14.50€) delight staff in the surrounding offices.
The famous soup is available for €12.50 on its own, €16.50 as a menu, with drinks at a fair price. It's good and hearty, so you can treat yourself.
Oh My Noodle's pleasant, luminous and rather designer setting makes for an enjoyable gourmet experience.
If you're on your own, you'll probably end up at the table d'hôte in the center of the restaurant, where you can strike up a conversation with the restaurant's large Chinese clientele.
More than just a Chinese restaurant, come here to taste this famous beef noodle soup, you won't regret the trip.
Service a little fast, but efficient!
