You've already heard of Popine 's Neapolitan pizzas, including the traditional margherita for just €5 at lunchtime on weekdays, but now wait until you discover their cocktails! To do so, head for Aimer, the brand-new cocktail bar opened a stone's throw from Popine Ménilmontant by the same band of merrymakers.
Inside, you'll find a relaxed atmosphere and good sound, or outside, on the large terrace overlooking the boulevard, where entertainment is guaranteed, you can sit back and throw one behind your tie.
To test what Aimer'sExperimental Groupe-trained bartenders have up their sleeves, we start with two long drinks: the slightly bitter Tu vuo' fa l'Americano (11€), with notes of coffee, Campari and sherry blend; and the Amandier (10€), made with Cachaça, roasted pineapple for a sweet touch, Espelette pepper and lemon.
Next up, Un Indien à Belleville (12€) with vodka, carrot, Indian spices and egg white for the foam, a particularly fragrant cocktail that we really enjoyed; and a more delicate Coquine (11€), with Armagnac blanche, rhubarb, strawberry pickles and dry vermouth.
At first glance, the Martine en Grèce cocktail (10€) seems rather classic, with vodka, cucumber, mint and dill, but turns out to be more original than it seems, with a surprising Mastiha liqueur, a natural Greek resin, and slightly acid whey.
Note that Aimer also offers a short menu of nibbles to accompany your beverages: olives, homemade hummus, burrata, roasted cauliflower and empanadas of black pudding from Gascony are sure to satisfy any appetite, unless you'd prefer to pop in a few steps away for a Popine pizza!
