Paris is full of fine gourmet addresses with well-defined universes. One of the capital's most charming spots is Odette, a pastry house specializing in cream puffs. Its first address awaits you in the Latin Quarter, a stone's throw from Place Saint-Michel.
Odette first introduced herself to gourmands in a picturesque 17th-century maisonette. The location echoes the history of Paris. It faces theSaint-Julien-le-Pauvre church, one of the capital's oldest, and Square René Viviani-Montebello, home to the City of Light's oldest tree. As you'll have gathered, here you're immersed in the heart of the Paris of yesteryear.
Upstairs, you'll usually find a small tea room with a retro, Art Deco feel. On the first floor, behind the glass counter,Odette 's colorful choux pastries catch our eye. The first address was then followed by a second, on Rue Montorgueil, renowned for its ultra-gourmet spots.
The choux are made daily in a laboratory in Paris, and when you taste them, there's no doubting their freshness. Nine flavors are available: lemon, raspberry, praline, coffee, vanilla, pistachio, salted butter caramel and chocolate. What we really appreciate is their surprising lightness, and their respect for the right flavors.
The pistachio doesn't have that marzipan taste you'd find elsewhere: the fragrance of the cream is faithful to the flavor of the dried fruit. The coffee literally gives us the impression of tasting a cappuccino in cabbage form, and the praliné has a pronounced hazelnut taste... the tasting is enough to convince us of the quality of the product. Bonus for special occasions: you can even order your own "pièce montée" or personalized choux!
