How about a quiet, courtyard-side coffee shop that promises books galore? Let's head for Used Book Café, a vintage tearoom where you'll feel right at home and want to sit for hours. And with good reason: the place is a veritable library from floor to ceiling, enough to delight the philanthropist in all of us.
Facing the courtyard, where a pretty Fiat Mini can be seen, Used Book Café reveals a cosy, subdued part and a brighter, full-length part, giving access to the Merci concept store.
The à la carte menu includes fresh fruit juices and hot drinks such as lattes, chai, hot chocolates and detox infusions. We were tempted by the beetroot-based latte of the day. It was a real treat for us that day. You can opt for classic or plant-based versions for an extra 50 cents.
Throughout the day, from 9:30am to 7pm, tartines, lemon cakes, tartes tatin, carrot cakes and other crumbles and chocolate fondants open up to us. For lunch, served from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., there's a soup of the day, boiled eggs, gourmet salads, quiche and savory tarts. Note that the menu is homemade and vegetarian only.
As far as second-hand books are concerned, there's something for everyone, from the old to the new. And if you happen to spot a book you'd like to buy or finish, they're on sale from €2 to €20.
In the evening, the café is transformed into a cocktail bar!
