There’s a new address to tick off in the 5ᵉ arrondissement de Paris that should delight fans of glaces artisanales: since April 12, 2026, LaCrèma has opened its doors at 19 rue Soufflot, a stone’s throw from the Panthéon and just near the entrance of the jardin du Luxembourg. An ideally chosen spot, between two iconic monuments of the Latin Quarter, where walkers wander with a natural craving for refreshing goodness. It’s Roberta Faria, a passionate Brazilian cofounder, who runs this glacier artisanal that isn’t quite like the others.
What immediately sets LaCrèma apart from its peers is a belief that's been baked in from day one: to do good for customers’ bodies and for the planet. Here, no cow’s milk and no cream, but house-made plant-based bases prepared daily on site. For pistachio, Roberta crafts a homemade pistachio drink from roasted Mediterranean nuts. For vanilla, it’s homemade cashew milk that brings roundness and a silky texture. No product is labeled vegan in the display, and that’s intentional: the idea is to move beyond preconceptions by simply offering really good ice creams.
The shop's carbon footprint is imagined down to the last detail: all machines run on water, the spoons are edible biscuit, misshapen fruits (the ones supermarkets reject for their looks) are recycled into sorbets. LaCrèma also signs on to the 1 % for the Planet program. On the sugars front, Roberta uses only unrefined beet sugar, at a level of 18 to 23 % depending on the flavors, well below conventional recipes that often exceed 40 %. Vegetable fibers (psyllium, chicory root) replace the usual stabilizers, delivering a real nutritional benefit.
The menu follows the seasons: strawberries have just arrived, kiwi is about to bow out. Among the must-haves, the coffee ice cream is clearly the house signature. Roberta collaborates with Terres de Café, a Brazilian-origin specialty coffee, shipped by sail to minimize environmental impact. The base is a homemade almond milk, and the result is striking: a silky texture, a direct aromatic punch, with the full complexity of coffee, from fruity notes to indulgent cocoa hints. It’s the flavor Roberta can only produce in limited quantities each day, such care demands.
The Mediterranean pistachio, roasted in-house, is also worth stopping by for, delivering a bold, genuinely vegetal flavor that isn’t masked by the base. The Tanzania vanilla, from Galand Vanille, is very intense and wins over fans of this note in its most authentic form. Note: several fragrances are based on cashew, almond, or hazelnut, so it’s best to flag any tree-nut allergies when you place the order.
At laCrèma, you can grab something to go for a stroll in the park, of course, but you can also sit in to enjoy a hot or iced coffee in total relaxation.
We really fell for the coffee ice cream: bold, direct, no-nonsense. If you’re into espresso, you’ll find it right in your cup. The pistachio is likewise convincing, because the fruit’s natural flavor isn’t drowned by the base, a pleasant departure from the overly smooth versions you’ll find elsewhere. A pleasant surprise comes from the kiwi, which you might not have pegged, but it turns out excellent with that authentic fruit taste you immediately recognize. Overall, LaCrèma’s ice creams are less sweet than average, so you can really taste each flavor. Enjoy yourself, yes—but do it well and in a healthier way. The only downside: being an artisanal spot with daily flavor rotations, by 2 p.m. some varieties can be sold out. To ensure you get the flavors you want, don’t dawdle.
It’s a spot that speaks to both the curious and the seasoned sweet-tooths, whether you’re with family, as a couple, or with friends, after a visit to the Panthéon or a wander through the Jardin du Luxembourg. The house-made whipped cream is always on the house, a rare courtesy in this neighborhood. Expect €6 for a three-flavor option and €7 for the larger four-flavor version. LaCrèma is at 19 Rue Soufflot, Paris 5th, accessible from the Luxembourg metro (RER B) or Cardinal Lemoine. The place is open every day from 1:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m..
