Sarra, the new restaurant devoted to buckwheat in Paris!

Open since mid-October, Sarra is a small restaurant giving buckwheat pride of place! But, be careful, it’s not about the simple buckwheat pancake, here, Sarra is more into serving tasty and healthy dishes.

When we heard that a restaurant devoted to buckwheat was about to open, it obviously triggered our curiosity. So, without a second thought, we rush to Sarra!

Within walking distance from the lovely rue Montorgueil in Paris 2nd arrondissement, Sarra seems to come straight from an Instagram account. Raw wooden tables, small foliage plants, light strings and above all… ultra-photogenic dishes.

But, at Sarra, it’s not only about doing something beautiful, it’s about doing something good and very good! Here, no traditional Breton buckwheat pancake like we could have thought, but a buckwheat-based cuisine (and gluten-free) by using PGI buckwheat flour and organic buckwheat seeds coming straight from Bretagne. The restaurant founder, Hubert, pays particular attention to the quality and the origin of his buckwheat and we can see he’s proud of his Breton terroir! He also works with the Blé noir tradition Bretagne association to highlight this cereal dear to buckwheat pancakes eaters.

But let’s move on to the table. We go for the soup of the day (carrot, squash and onion for €5), the small Breizh Orient salad with homemade hummus, seeds, goat cheese, pomegranate and salad sprouts (€6) and salmon and avocado toasts to share (€11). Offering a nice balance between the small salad and mint sprouts, pomegranate seeds bring a very welcomed sour touch while the balsamic perfectly pairs with salmon. Finally, we go for the crumble for dessert, the plating is totally unstructured and gives a surprising result!

In short, at Sarra, there’s a noticeable sense of detail and we love it!

At lunchtime, the eatery offers set menus for €12 and €15.50 while at dinnertime, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., cocktails, draught cider and boards to share are out! On Saturday, while waiting for a Sunday opening, a very complete brunch menu is offered for €24.

Here’s a lovely Breton touch in a very boho setting, that’s what we love!
