If you’re tired of the traditional boards of charcuterie and cheese or classic tapas with often too small quantities, don’t lose any more second and run to discover the Ensemble restaurant.
Nestled since September 2018 in Paris 16th arrondissement, a stone’s throw from the very chic Saint James, Ensemble is part of our latest favorite discoveries.
Behind this address, we find Aude Bourguignon and Mathieu Darmont, already behind Tous, set in rue Lamartine in Paris 9th arrondissement. For their second Parisian baby, both associates bet one a quality cooking to share based on gourmet tapas that are generous and creative and cooked by female chef Margaux Vieljeux.
In terms of decorum, we love the industrial and cozy spirit created by architect Nathan Brami including this impressive bar, this ceiling covered in mirrors to give more depth to the room or the lamps shaped like light bulbs.
But let’s get back to the tasting with a menu offering about twenty savory or sweet, surf and turf tapas for prices between €9 and €15. For a maximum of sharing between guests, all plates are served at the same time and with a smile as a bonus.
Fish lovers will especially go for the very coveted salmon tartare with herbs and ginger pickles or the grilled squid with parsley.
As for us, we’ve been delighted by the delicious roasted king prawns served with a citrus fruit salad and spinach sprouts.

Meat eaters won’t resist the Black Angus beef tataki with peanuts and chimichurri sauce or the marrow bone put on a toast and topped with matured cheese, or the incredible beef stew fritters and the tartare sauce.
As for us, we fell for the soft and tender quail breasts marvelously and ingeniously paired with roasted pear and balsamic sauce.

But may vegetarian people be rest assured, the Ensemble restaurant also thinks about them by offering four different tapas including the smooth and creamy – as we like it – burratina from Puglia with alba white truffle oil, as well as red endives served with gorgonzola mousse and fried onions or even fried artichokes with gravelax sauce.
We definitively loved the chestnut risotto enhanced with walnuts, and finely sliced parmesan!

If you feel you’ve got some room left, you can choose some cheese such as truffled farm gouda or three sweet tapas including the chocolate cake with praline whipped cream and feuillantine or the warm and delicious apple tart served with a smooth calvados cream and toasted hazelnuts for some crisp. A true delight to wrap up this meal on a more than positive note.

And to top it all, Ensemble also offer a beautiful selection of wines to go along these tapas.
The bonus? The great soundtrack playing Regina Spektor and Ásgeir.
Also note that every week, the restaurant changes three to four of its tapas, according to deliveries and seasons. The occasion to come back to Ensemble more often to enjoy and discover these delicious tapas enabling the 16th arrondissement to face off other neighborhoods of the capital renown for their very good tables.
