The Nuit des Musées 2024 is an opportunity for museums and monuments to highlight their collections and showcase their treasures from a whole new angle. And for visitors, it's a chance to have fun and enjoy these magical places, without paying a cent! It's a real bargain, just the way we like it, and this year it takes place on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

For this new edition, we're off to visit the Musée Guimet. It houses one of the world's richest collections of Asian art. Magnificently refurbished, the museum takes visitors on a voyage of discovery through the millennia of its collections, from India to Japan, China and Southeast Asia, not forgetting its textile and photographic collections, as well as contemporary art.

Nuit des Musées 2024: the program at the Musée Guimet in Paris

  • Musée Guimet - Night opening
    Saturday, May 18, 6:00 p.m.

    European Museum Night 2024

  • T'ang Haywen, a Chinese painter in Paris (1927-1991)" exhibition
    Saturday, May 18, 6:00 p.m.

Through a selection of some one hundred works, the exhibition presents a panorama of the major stages in the painter's career, as well as the different facets of his work. A singular modern artist of the post-war period, T'ang Haywen made France his land of choice, and Western art a powerful source of inspiration, while remaining profoundly Chinese; a duality that inhabited him throughout his life as an artist. Introduced to calligraphy, his painting is a vibrant link between the Asian tradition of monochrome ink and the Western influence of vivid color, between figuration and abstraction.

  • Orchestral" concert - Jiang Nan (vocals, guzheng zither)
    Saturday, May 18, 7:00 pm

    Jiang Nan (vocals, guzheng zither)
    Duration: 25 min
Jiang Nan, a virtuoso artist born in the Fujian city of Quanzhou, grew up listening to the rehearsals of the local revolutionary opera troupe, where her parents danced and sang, with the municipal theater as her playground. She learned to play the 21-string guzheng zither, an age-old instrument whose expressive palette she brings to the museum stage.

  • Meeting with Shubhanghi Swarup
    Saturday, May 18, 7:30 p.m.

A literary moment with Indian author Shubhanghi Swarup, winner of the 2022 Prix Émile Guimet for Asian literature for her debut novel Dérive des âmes et des continents, published by Métailié.
A telluric novel in which stories seem to emerge organically along a fault line that shakes the earth and everything it contains, from the Indian Ocean to the Himalayas, its incredible breathtaking narrative power is equal to the tsunamis it contains.
Meeting followed by a book signing at the museum's bookshop-boutique.

  • Words of Chinese art - Guimet museum's Chinese collections with commentary
    Saturday, May 18, 8:00 pm

An original way to discover the museum's Chinese collections, using words, riddles and riddles in the decor of ceramics, lacquerware and furniture.

  • Yidjam" concert - Jiang Nan (vocals, guzheng zither) and Dalaïjargal (diphonic vocals and Mongolian fiddle)
    Saturday, May 18, 9:00 pm

Duo by Jiang Nan (vocals, guzheng zither) and Dalaïjargal (diphonic singing and Mongolian horse-headed fiddle morin khuur)
    Duration: 1h

To sing the blues of the Blue River, Jiang Nan is accompanied by Dalaï Daansuren, master of Mongolian diphonic singing, whose supernatural, split voice rises and intertwines with the almost human voice of the horse-headed fiddle. The duo offers a creation combining Chinese and Mongolian music, revisited and enlivened by the impetuosity of the steppe wind.
