Brace yourself because you’re about to live an out-of-this-world experience…Illucity, virtual reality center near La Villette, has launched on February 6, 2019 an original creation in hyper reality, Toy Land. A VR experience of a total immersion taking us to the land of toys, a bit like Toy Story.
The principle? You’re equipped with a VR helmet, but also a backpack computer and a riffle, you have to evolve in a room with your group and kill off zombie dolls and other vampire trolls until the room is fully cleaned up. A bit like a VR escape room, but without any enigmas and riddles, it’s more like a shooting game, like Spartrack-VR.
An experience the board obviously tried and this one clearly stands out of the other VR activities. First because of its colorful universe that will undoubtedly delight children and adults. The toy universe is rather well-used and demystified the quite terrible “beat’em all”, we must say (zombie dolls are not here for a cup of tea…).
Moving on to the transitions between the game periods, they are incredibly smooth. How do they work? In the room where players are in, six vibrating armchairs are available to take all participants from one place to another: helicopter, giant robot…. As many shapes enabling players to stay in the game without being aware of the phases. A rather well-thought strategy that makes the entire difference…
As for the pricing, it’s quite interesting: about thirty euros per player for a 1-hour session (30 minutes to play), meaning it equals classic escape rooms fees. Alright, it’s not super cheap, in light of how little time we play, but the immersion is such that it’s worth it. Also note that the experience is available to kids from 11 years old, enabling families to play and escape from their daily lives a little bit… Let’s kill some toys, shall we?
