Heads up: Poppy is taking a summer break and will be closed for the entire month of August... see you on September 5 to discover this lovely family-friendly venue! Reservations remain open online, and you can also request quotes for birthday parties.
Behind the storefront window strung with colorful garlands, Poppy for kids is the play area you’ve no doubt dreamed of having at home: with its three large rooms dedicated to play, it’s the gathering spot where you’ll love bringing both toddlers and older children alike—to spend an hour or even the entire afternoon in a space designed to feel like your own living room.
"The principle at Poppy is to be truly free: everything is at child height so they can be autonomous during their time here," explains Alison, the creator of this family hub in the 17th arrondissement. Here, the concept is simple: you come in and pay a per-child flat rate based on the number of hours you spend. In the meantime, the kids get to choose absolutely everything they want to do: painting, playing with dolls/barbie/dollhouse in the corner dedicated to imaginative play, dressing up, reading in the discovery space, playing one of the many board games on site (Poppy counts more than 100!)...
Every child must be accompanied by an adult: for under-3s who aren’t yet in nursery, having a place like this in the neighborhood is a real plus—it's a gentle way to introduce them to life with others. For parents, nannies and chaperones, a relaxation area with a sofa at their height lets grown-ups keep an eye on the little ones or join in the fun themselves! Alison also offers coffee and tea so you can sip something warm while the kids play, plus a kids’ snack menu (madeleines, fruit juice and applesauce for €6.50). If you’d like to bring your laptop for teleworking, free wifi is available at Poppy, and if you’re a regular, the place offers discounted entry rates for children with a loyalty card!
Each week, on Wednesdays, for the most part, Wednesday, Poppy offers Montessori workshops, kids' baking sessions, sensory workshops, plant-based painting... With great instructors, like Rose (Les Papilles Vertes) who teaches your little ones to make plant-based paint from vegetables! During the holidays, small-group workshops (7 children maximum) are also available.
When you want to play one of the board games from Poppy at home, you can also borrow them to try with the family, like a genuine neighborhood game library (2.50 € per game loan for 15 days). In fact, that’s a bit of the idea behind Poppy: to turn this space into a resource hub for parents who may be isolated (or not) and need to meet people, but also to become an essential spot for Parisian families, who often don’t have a playroom at home. “We offer children a space where they can play freely: it’s a kind of indoor square, the second home for families seeking an address that works for everyone without crossing all of Paris,” explains Alison, who has lived in the neighborhood with her family for more than eight years.
Poppy doesn’t neglect expectant and new moms, offering prenatal and postnatal yoga classes (with or without baby, your call) several times a week, based on the Gasquet method, endorsed by doctors and recommended from the very first days after birth. Before each holiday period, you can even try family yoga, with a special session followed by a snack and a creative activity for the little ones!
Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Poppy is the playroom to check out with children of all ages, from toddlers to older kids, in the 17th arrondissement!
