They say happiness is found in the countryside, and this weekend it has clearly chosen the Essonne. On Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th of June 2026, the Ferme de l'Envol opens its doors for the 5th edition of the Field Day Festival, at the famous Base 217, a vast site straddling Brétigny-sur-Orge and Le Plessis-Pâté (91). Brought to you by Cœur d'Essonne Agglomération as part of its agricultural and food transition program Sésame, the festival spotlights the farming world with a producer market, participatory workshops, and activities for all ages, just steps from Brétigny-sur-Orge RER station.
It's hard to imagine a more unlikely setting. The Ferme de l'Envol is a 75-hectare agroecological farm situated on a former air base, about twenty kilometers from Paris. Where aircraft once lifted off, vegetables are now grown, and a farming approach that respects living systems is championed. For a weekend, this corner of Île-de-France countryside transforms into a large, family-friendly gathering where people come to meet, taste, learn, and have fun to the rhythm of the fields.
And as always, several surprises are in store for us on site.
Admission is completely free and the event welcomes everyone. Workshop sign-ups are available at the reception on the day, except for the 20 km bike stroll, which requires advance registration via the form on the Cœur d’Essonne Agglomération site. Since the event takes place outdoors, dress for the weather. On the logistics side, the PoC "Fête champêtre" leans eco-friendly and aims to minimize waste: bring your own water bottle, as drinking fountains are available on site. For those with a small appetite, a wide range of food options will be on offer. La Ferme de l’Envol is located at 25 Avenue du Centre d’Essais en Vol, and the full program can be found on the official site of Cœur d’Essonne Agglomération.
Our take? It’s a delightful outing to share with family or friends, ideal for those curious about good food, fans of local, short supply chains, and kids who love getting their hands in the soil. We appreciate the event’s sincere tone, far from the postcard rural fête: here, we’re really talking about farming, the seasons, and transition, without any preaching. A small tip, though: the bike ride on Sunday is already sold out, so if you’re arriving without a reservation, you’ll want to aim for the other activities.
