Augustin Pirate des Indes returns to la Folie Théâtre, in Paris, from November 4, 2026, to January 3, 2027. Written and directed by Marc Wolters, this adventure comedy invites children aged 4 to 10 to follow a young captain across the Indian Ocean, with one special feature: the spices can also be discovered by their scent.
The show runs for 55 minutes and is performed on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2:30 p.m., with additional performances during the Christmas holidays. No performances on December 24 and 25 or January 1. Julien Large, Tullio Cipriano and Nicolas Guillemot are among the cast.
Through a sea shanty and a voyage across the ocean on the back of a humpback whale, Augustin introduces children to spices with enchanting scented flags. A chance to let their imaginations run wild… and enjoy a wonderful time as a family.
Augustin “Volubile” Poivre is only six years old when he becomes captain of a pirate ship. Setting out in search of the treasure of the Maharaja of Pondicherry, he will cross the Indian Ocean on the back of a humpback whale, brave the orangutan jungle, escape fierce tigers and sneak into a palace made of candy…
In these adventures, also populated by a charming princess, menacing bearded Dutchmen, a cheeky parrot and a one-eyed sharpshooter, Augustin will introduce us to a thousand and one spices with mysterious, intoxicating scents.
The character of Augustin is very loosely inspired by the adventures of botanist and explorer Pierre Poivre. In the 18th century, this “missionary of spices” helped bring an end, in France’s favor, to the Dutch East India Company’s monopoly on the highly lucrative spice trade.
In an evocative setting designed to spark the imagination as much as possible, Augustin takes the stage alone and recounts his thrilling treasure hunt with infectious verve. To overcome every danger, he “enlists” the young spectators eager for thrills as members of his crew.
In the 18th century, people fought fiercely for vanilla or nutmeg; today, spices are synonymous with sensuality, cooking and travel. Their origins are not always well known, and their aromas not always recognized.
That’s why this show, beyond mere entertainment, offers a few historical, geographical and botanical points of reference... During the show, Augustin lets us smell cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg… A fun and educational way to keep dreaming with our eyes open.
