Chelles July 14, 2023 fireworks cancelled (77)

Attention, this fireworks display is cancelled! In view of the drought and possible fire outbreaks, the Prefect of Seine-et-Marne has issued a decree (n°2023/DDT/SEPR/136) stating that until October 31, 2023, all types of fire are prohibited within and up to 200 meters from sensitive areas (wooded areas, forests, copses, etc.). This ban applies to all fires, including fireworks and bonfires. The town of Chelles is therefore canceling its fireworks display and party.

To celebrate the July 14th national holiday in style, Chelles town council invites you to visit the Montagne de Chelles on July 13, 2023. This 104m-high hill is a 50-hectare wooded area. It is home to the town's military fort and former gypsum quarries. The evening's program includes a luminous fireworks display to be enjoyed with family and friends! This year, the theme of the fireworks is extraordinary landscapes.

Chelles has a long and fascinating history. It has been home to such historic figures as Clovis, King of the Franks, and Clotilde, his widow, who founded a women's monastery in Chelles. The town was also the birthplace of Clotaire III and was visited by Charlemagne. The architects of Notre-Dame de Paris, Jehan de Chelles and Pierre de Chelles, came from this town. Numerous artists and cultural figures, including Mistinguett and Maurice Chevalier, have also lived in Chelles.

In all, some 10,000 people are expected to enjoy the fireworks display, which will be accompanied by lighting effects and an original soundtrack.
