Why not take advantage of Heritage Days to come and discover the Hôtel de Matignon and its magnificent garden, on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026? Sign up for a free, exceptional tour of the Prime Minister's offices.

The European Heritage Days are back on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026. Once again this year, a wealth of tours and activities awaits in the castles of Île-de-France, the historic monuments, the churches, or even the secret places and the great institutions.

These great institutions are places we regularly hear about in the news, but which seem beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. And yet, for one weekend, these key institutions of our Republic are opening their doors to us!

Among them is, of course, the Hôtel de Matignon and its stunning garden, tucked away in the 7th arrondissement. The building, designed by architect Jean Courtonne in 1722 at the request of the Prince of Tingry, will be open for visitors on 19 and 20 September 2026 as part of the 43rd Heritage Days.

A private mansion rich in history and culture, with a two-hectare garden designed by Claude Desgot, André Le Nôtre's great nephew. Since 1935, the Hôtel de Matignon has been the official residence and workplace of the head of the French government.

To discover all the secrets of this historic building, take part in the tours organized during these Heritage Days, and admire the Cour d'Honneur, the Prime Minister's office, the first floor lounges and the garden. Here's the detailed program for these tours:

  • European Heritage Days at the Hôtel de Matignon

On the occasion of the 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days, the Hôtel de Matignon will exceptionally open its doors for a unique moment centered on nature and craftsmanship.

To address the annual dual theme, "Heritage of Photography" and "Cultural Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine," the following will be offered:

    * A booth run by Declercq Passementiers, a company specializing in trim and passementerie since 1852, which helped refurbish curtains at the Hôtel de Matignon.

    * An awareness session on safeguarding works of art in case of disaster by the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) and the Bouclier bleu France association as part of the Plan de sauvegarde des biens culturels (PSBC).

    * A photographic exhibition in the Hôtel de Matignon garden.

Beyond the dual annual theme, the professions and roles of the Secretariat General of the Government, Matignon’s teams, and the Republican Guard will be showcased through three garden stands, complemented by performances by the Republican Guard if the weather allows.

A presentation on how the hives operate will be given by Matignon’s beekeepers, with honey tastings and, for children, the making of a beeswax candle.

We invite you to enjoy this exceptional day at the heart of the Hôtel de Matignon and its garden, a celebration of discovery, exchange, and know-how.
