Heritage Days at Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Church in Bois-Colombes

  • Guided tour of the Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours Church and a musical encounter with its organ

In July 1870, a chapel—an annex to the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church in Colombes—opened in the Bois de Colombes district. More than a year after the town gained independence, in 1897 the chapel became a parish church. The façade and the bell tower, but also most of the stained glass and the organ, stand as historical witnesses to the first church that was enlarged and renovated between 1924 and 1929. After an interior renovation of the building in 2011–2012, the organ, built by organ maker Ernest Béasse in 1904, is undergoing restoration.

A tour of Bois-Colombes’ oldest public building and its Béasse-Grenzing organ (restored and enlarged in 2023–2024) is proposed during the European Heritage Days.

Participation requirements: Access by reservation only and limited to 40 people per tour. Reservations open on September 7, 2026. Tour duration: about 1 hour 15 minutes. Free | Booking required - 01.41.19.83.48., https://www.bois-colombes.fr/ville-attractive/patrimoine-et-histoire/actualites/

Heritage Days at the Bois-Colombes Town Hall

  • Exhibition "Life in Bois-Colombes During World War II (1939-1945)"

This exhibition aims to capture the lived experience of Bois-Colombes residents from 1939 to 1945. Less than two decades after the end of World War I, Bois-Colombiens are mobilized once again to face the German foe. After the armistice in June 1940, many become prisoners of war, reuniting with their families only in spring 1945. Those who stayed on the home front endure five years that are unusually upheaving. Some endure evacuation as early as September 1939, then, as the Wehrmacht advances, the mass exodus in June 1940. In the summer of 1940, daily life in Bois-Colombes slowly resumes, marked by requisitions by the German occupier, rationing measures, and from March 1942 the ever-present threat of aerial bombardment. Simultaneously, repressive actions against mainly ethnic groups and political opponents intensify, bringing about arbitrary arrests, internments, and deportations that can prove fatal. At the same time, Bois-Colombiens are requisitioned and sent to the Third Reich to work there, prompting new acts of resistance against both the occupier and the French state. The liberation of Bois-Colombes on August 25, 1944 opens the war’s final chapter, marked by the formation of a new municipal government, purge-era acts, and the difficult repatriation of deportees and prisoners.

Exhibition on view from 15/09 to 28/11/2026, Monday to Friday 8:30–12:00 and 13:30–17:30, Saturdays 8:30–12:00.

  • Conference on the History of International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF)

The conference will focus on the history of International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) and its Bois-Colombes production site.

In 1912, Albert Schwarz opened a French branch of the Dutch company Polak & Schwarz in Bois-Colombes (47 Rue Victor-Hugo), a firm that had been producing and selling fruit essences since 1880. Despite major challenges during World War II, the Bois-Colombes operation kept going and specialized in producing fragrances and raw materials for the perfume industry. In 1958, Polak & Schwarz merged with Van Ameringen-Haebler to form International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF), which designs and manufactures aroma materials, fragrance compositions for cosmetics or industrial uses (detergents, detergents, etc.), and aroma blends used in food products. The Bois-Colombes site, dedicated to research for aroma design, moved in 2005 to Neuilly-sur-Seine.
