Every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) are an opportunity for enthusiasts and the curious to fill up on cultural goodies through a rich program. The event usually takes place on the third weekend in September, when many cultural sites, establishments and institutions open their doors to reveal their secrets, sometimes in exceptional ways!
Whether you're a fan of history, art, fashion or much more, each edition of the Paris and Île-de-France festival offers a program so vast that everyone can find the event they're most interested in!
In Paris, it's an opportunity to conquer the most emblematic monuments, or to venture out to lesser-known spots. In the capital's 7th arrondissement, as you approach the Pont de l'Alma, you'll see a very special cathedral, at the crossroads of modernity and tradition. Its five gold-covered bulbous steeples attract curious glances, and its architecture echoes both Byzantine and Russian styles.
This is the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, also known as the Russian Orthodox Cathedral. Adjacent to it is the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Center, to which the religious edifice is closely linked. For the 42nd edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, scheduled for the weekend of September 20 and 21, 2025, we're off to enjoy a special program!

### Firsts of the Russian avant-garde. From sketch to drawing.
The exhibition, drawn from the countless treasures of the Bakhrushin Theatrical Museum archives, aims to show how the remarkable artists of the Russian avant-garde viewed the art of theater. In Russia, the avant-garde movement was initiated by a change in artistic consciousness. Kazimir Malevich described it as "the first volcano unleashed on the clearing of the secular repose of the fine arts".
"The theories [de] revolutionized everyday attitudes towards painting, sculpture, architecture and the applied arts, and it was to them that Russian theatrical art owed much of its worldwide prestige on the eve of October 1917 and for some time afterwards. With the advent of the avant-garde, costumes and scenic materials became as important as music, libretto and theatrical action", John Bowlt, Slavic scholar, art historian and specialist in Russian culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The theme of the Russian theatrical avant-garde is truly inexhaustible. The aim of the exhibition's curators is not to demonstrate all the artistic and technical trends, but to introduce the viewer to the stylistic changes that were taking place in Russian stagecraft during these years.
The exhibition is based on sketches of theater sets and costumes, and photographs of stage installations by such outstanding masters as Vladimir Tatline, Georges Yakoulov, Isaak Rabinovitch, Alexandra Exter, Kazimir Malévitch, Lyubov Popova, Pavel Kuznetsov and Nikolai Sapunov.
### Architect Constantin Melnikov. In Paris 100 years later.
The exhibition marks two important dates: the 100th anniversary of the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, for which Melnikov designed a pavilion for the USSR, and also the 135th birthday of the remarkable Russian architect.
The exhibition tells the story of the famous red pavilion created just 100 years ago by Melnikov, assisted by Alexander Rodchenko. His architectural work, for which he received a commemorative diploma, attracted a great deal of attention and reaction. Melnikov's synthesis of different European avant-garde trends, with its apparent simplicity and incredible modernity, was ahead of its time.
The exhibition also features other avant-garde projects by the architect in Moscow, including his family home turned museum, sports and cultural clubs, and garages.
Melnikov's work has greatly influenced later architecture, and continues to inspire new generations to this day.
The exhibition is organized with the help of the archives of the **Chchusev Architecture Museum** and the **Melnikov House Museum** in Moscow.
