Architectures in Seine-Saint-Denis, season 1
--------------------------------------------
### Historic monuments in Seine-Saint-Denis
From the Middle Ages to the 20th century, the Seine-Saint-Denis region was home to a wide variety of buildings. Whether through their construction techniques, the materials used, the use of pioneering or innovative building models, or the renown of their architects, they are all part of our cultural heritage today.
The Grange aux Dîmes in Tremblay-en-France, the Church of the Old Carmel in Saint-Denis, the Château de Saint-Ouen and the Poudrerie in Sevran are just some of the Monuments Historiques on offer.

Preserving our heritage also means passing on and rehabilitating it, and this year's European Heritage Days take place during the European Week for Sustainable Development (EWSSD from September 18 to October 8, 2025). To mark the occasion, we'd like to invite you to contribute to our second-life operation in partnership with the 93 departmental public finance directorate, by donating clothing and hygiene products for patients in precarious situations. All donations will be collected by the chaplaincy to benefit patients.

### L'Avenir was built to the east
Built in the 1920s, well after the Les 24 arpents and l'Epi d'Or housing estates created in 1902, l'Avenir is one of the city's most extensive neighborhoods. Long isolated from the rest of the city by the Maison-Blanche hospital, this part of Neuilly-sur-Marne is undergoing a major transformation.
The Municipal Archives invite you to discover this neighborhood and its history.
Parc Départemental de la Haute Ile
Discover the history of the park and its flora and fauna in the company of an enthusiastic guide.
Meeting point: Parc de la Haute-Ile / Park parking lot. Accessible from avenue Jean-Jaurès, meet in front of the Ecogardes building.
Neuilly-sur-Marne water tower
Panorama des châteaux d'eau de Seine-Saint-Denis is a project that invites you to (re)discover the history of the département through its water towers, from your phone, computer or tablet.
Designed for all audiences, this fun tour is based on intergenerational conversations, photographs, postcards, videos and quizzes. It enables Sequano-Dionysians to take a fresh look at their territory, exploring its past and its evolution through these monuments as emblematic as they are little-known.
In their own way, water towers tell the story of Seine-Saint-Denis: memories of the past, present-day issues and architectural witnesses to the territory's evolution.

The "Queen's Dress" is an embroidered garment made by Marie Maillet Vitiello during her internment from 1937 to her death in 1989 at the Maison-Blanche psychiatric hospital in Neuilly-sur-Marne. It was registered as a "Monument Historique" on May 13, 2025. Come and discover this work, its history and meet the women who saved it!
The afternoon will begin with a guided tour of the former Maison-Blanche hospital by the association Histoire(s) et Mémoire de Maison Blanche, and will continue at Ville-Evrard for a presentation of the "Queen's Dress", preserved in the museum of the Société d'études et de recherches historiques en psychiatrie (SERHEP).
A round-table discussion will bring together all the players involved in its valorization, and will detail the history of this exceptional heritage, and how it has been safeguarded by generations of women nurses and carers, who have ensured its preservation to the present day.
By Jasmine Morice and Benoît Pouvreau, in charge of the cultural heritage inventory at the Département de la Seine-Saint-Denis.
An initiative of the Département de la Seine-Saint-Denis with Histoire(s) et Mémoire de Maison Blanche, the Société d'études et de recherches historiques en psychiatrie (SERHEP), the EPS de Ville-Evrard and the Institut de formation inter-hospitalier Théodore Simon.
