Gonesse is located in the Paris catchment area, in its urban unit and in its catchment area. This is how the town is presented on Wikipedia. This definition could apply to any Paris suburb of Gonesse's size. The aim of the exhibition "D'une lieue de ban à la banlieue, une histoire des relations entre Paris et Gonesse" is to show how, throughout history, our town has exploited its strategic position in relation to the capital's defense, the ingenuity of its inhabitants - drapers and bakers - and its natural resources, to compete on an almost equal footing with Paris. This was true from the Middle Ages to the dawn of the 19th century. From then on, with the arrival of the railway station and the industrial revolution, the town was transformed into the suburban city it is today. This corresponds to the current meaning of the word suburb: directly dependent on the city and living in osmosis with it. This is the story we invite you to discover.

  • Remote
    Friday, September 19, 2025 - 20:00 ⤏ 22:30 | Saturday, September 20, 2025 - 20:00 ⤏ 22:30

The play Éloigné.e.s, created by Compagnie DK-BEL, explores with sensitivity and poetry the relationship between Paris and Gonesse through the prism of history, memory and lived experience. Based on research carried out with the archives department of the city of Gonesse, the show explores what it means to grow up, live or arrive in the "banlieue", a space both close to and far from the capital. Between geographical remoteness, symbolic distance and immigration, Éloignés gives a voice to those who sometimes feel on the bangs, whether of the city-center or their homeland. Enriched by an exhibition and extended by a convivial moment, this artistic and human project invites the public to forge links, cross narratives and reinterrogate the visible or invisible borders that cross us.
