  • Beethoven Serenade Concert Under the Arcades

Antoine Bourdelle harbors a deep admiration for Ludwig van Beethoven, the Romantic genius whose work he celebrates for both its fervent commitment and its creative power.

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, Les Folies du temps perform Serenade Op. 8 (1796), a youthful work by the composer still marked by classical heritage, where violin, viola and cello converse in equal measure in a dance of variations and contrasts. The program is completed by a Flute Aubade and string-trio by François Devienne, revealing, as with Beethoven, the influence of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn.

Interpretation: Dalhia Adamopoulos (viola), Jean-Christophe Marq (cello), Sylvie Pascal (flute), Alain Pégeot (violin)

    Les Folies du temps

In 2009, Sylvie Pascal, Jean-Christophe Marq and Olivier Dejours pooled their experiences, tastes and aspirations and founded Les Folies du temps. From that moment, they chose to foreground, within the company, the relationship between music and theatre: chamber operas, melodramas, staged concerts… thereby highlighting the importance of dramaturgy in music, even in purely instrumental works. Thus were created several operas (Didon et Énée, Orlando furioso, Le Combat de Tancrède et Clorinde…), staged concerts (La Passion selon Saint Jean, Jean-Sébastien Bach between measure and excess), melodramas (Le Chant du cavalier bleu, Onomata, Sept paroles), children’s shows (Ulysse, Proserpine, Phæton). The musicians of Les Folies du temps perform on historical or “modern” instruments depending on the demands of the works they interpret (from the 17th century to today). A taste for whimsy and a touch of folly unite the company’s musicians and singers, and fuel the desire to bring “early” music into the present while interpreting contemporary works with the cultural lens of those that preceded them.
