If you’ve never stepped inside the Hôtel de Ville de Paris, make a point to visit during the Heritage Days 2026. Even though the building dates back to 1882, it remains a jewel of Parisian heritage, proudly listed as a Monument historique, right in the heart of the capital.
TheHôtel de Ville de Paris had to be rebuilt after a fire in 1871. Architects Théodore Ballu and Deperthes achieved the feat of reproducing the old Hôtel de Ville in less than ten years, with major improvements. TheHôtel de Ville de Paris became the most modern public building of its time. It was connected to electricity and the telephone, and equipped with central heating and elevators.
As in past years each September, the Paris City Hall takes part in the European Heritage Days. A chance to step inside this iconic Parisian landmark and learn more about the building, on September 19 and 20, 2026.
Take a stroll through the richly decorated reception rooms of the Hôtel de Ville, as well as the famous Paris Council chamber and the office of the Mayor of Paris. Admire the architecture, furniture and works of art, such as the model of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle! And don't miss the heritage library, the salons d'apparat, not forgetting the Paris Rendez-Vous boutique.

The City Hall is yours! On the occasion of the 43rd edition of European Heritage Days, the City Hall of Paris opens its doors to the public.
A unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of one of the capital’s most iconic monuments.
Visitors will be able to explore the Mayor of Paris’s office, the Paris City Council chamber, the library, and the prestigious state rooms. The tour will also offer a chance to meet the people whose daily mission is to safeguard this exceptional heritage: locksmiths and clockmakers, upholsterers and parqueters, lustre makers and florists.
Heritage trades will be highlighted through the presence of historians, curators, archaeologists, stonemasons and marble workers. All will share their commitment to the conservation, restoration, and promotion of Parisian heritage.
### Numerous exhibitions to discover
Throughout the route, exhibitions will trace the history of the Paris City Hall and spotlight the major heritage projects currently being pursued by the City. A space devoted to the matrimoine will invite visitors to rediscover the role of women in public space through Parisian statuary.
### The 200th anniversary of photography in the spotlight
As part of the 200th anniversary of photography, the public will have access to an exceptional selection of ancient photographs, postcards, books, and technical documents from the collections of the Paris Archives and the City’s ten heritage and specialized libraries.
### The 400 years of the French Navy celebrated
The year 2026 also marks the 400th anniversary of the French Navy and the 25th anniversary of the City of Paris’s sponsorship of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, during which a model of the famous ship will be shown at the City Hall.
### The “Made in Paris” artisans in the spotlight
At Paris la Boutique, two exhibitions dedicated to artisans with the “Made in Paris” label will celebrate photography and design. The works on display, along with a selection of Ville de Paris brand products, will be offered to the public throughout the weekend.
To help visitors explore, mediators from the École du Louvre will be present along the entire route to share their knowledge and answer questions. An accessibility program will also be provided in partnership with the Action Passerelle association to accommodate visitors with disabilities.
Free access to the City Hall will be available by pre-registration only (registration opens Wednesday, September 9).
