Against the continuing ozone pollution episode in Île-de-France, the City of Paris extends the free residential parking program this Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Here are the conditions and recommendations in place to curb polluting emissions.

Due to a persistent ozone pollution episode, residential parking remains free in Paris this Wednesday, May 27, 2026. According to the City of Paris, the measure is extended to curb car travel and reduce polluting emissions in the capital.

After an initial day of free transit on Tuesday, May 26, the municipality is keeping the measure in place as an episode of air pollution continues to affect Île-de-France.

Who is eligible for free residential parking?

This exemption applies exclusively to residential parking. It covers the mixed-use streets in the four zones designated around the driver’s home who benefits from Paris’s residential parking program.

The City of Paris also notes that if a pollution spike is declared after you’ve purchased a weekly pass, its validity will be extended by the number of freely granted days officially decided.

Guidelines in response to the pollution episode

Authorities urge reducing the use of private cars, prioritising public transport, carpooling, cycling, and, where possible, teleworking.

Motorists are also urged to slow down:

  • 110 km/h on motorway sections normally limited to 130 km/h;
  • 90 km/h on sections restricted to 110 km/h;
  • 70 km/h on routes limited to 80 or 90 km/h.

Why is this measure being introduced?

Free residential parking is among the measures activated during periods of poor air quality to encourage residents to curb their motorized travel.

The information and advisory procedure is activated when pollutant levels exceed thresholds that could affect health, particularly for people who are sensitive or vulnerable.
