A heatwave is battering the capital, and Paris is officially on yellow heatwave alert. The city has therefore activated its heatwave response plan, extending the opening hours of certain parks and gardens until midnight.

With temperatures topping 30°C in Paris and the Île-de-France region, this May is giving a preview of the summer heatwaves to come. A major heatwave has been unfolding across France since the Pentecost weekend, and several local heat records have already fallen. On Tuesday, 26 May 2026, Météo-France classified the capital as yellow alert for the heatwave.

In Paris, the situation can be hard to bear. That’s why the capital offers a range of cooling spots including libraries, swimming pools, fountains... If you’re looking for a shaded corner during this heatwave, you can also take advantage of the city’s green spaces to cool off and help bring the temperature down. Some are open 24/7, while others stay open until midnight to offer Parisians a cooler place to rest.

The City of Paris has therefore decided to keep 14 Parisian parks open until midnight for the duration of this heat wave.

The parks affected in Paris

  • Square Louis XIII (4th arrondissement) (closing at 11:15 p.m.)
  • Esplanade Gaston Monnerville (6th arrondissement)
  • Square Boucicaut (7th arrondissement)
  • Villemin Garden — Mahsa Jina Amini (10th arrondissement)
  • Emile Cohl Square (12th arrondissement)

Which parks are open all night in Paris?

Among Paris’s roughly 540 green spaces, nearly a quarter are accessible around the clock. These 140 parks and gardens open 24/7 are spread across all 20 districts and offer cooling respite in any circumstances. They’re popular in the evenings and late at night, especially during heat waves. The full list can be found on the City of Paris website.

Which gardens stay open until midnight this summer?

Every year, from July 4 to September 6, 2026, the City of Paris extends the opening hours of several green spaces until midnight. This summer initiative aims to make it easier to find cool spots after sunset. Among them:

  • Esplanade Gaston Monnerville (6th)
  • Square Boucicaut (7th)
  • Jardin Villemin - Mahsa Jîna Amini (10th)

Other parks open in hot weather?

When temperatures remain high for several days, the City of Paris can temporarily extend the list of parks open until midnight. This measure makes it possible to offer residents more places to relax at night, without changing the opening hours of parks already open 24 hours a day. The areas concerned are selected on the basis of their cooling potential and their location. In addition to those already mentioned, the following have been added:

  • Parc Monceau (8th arrondissement)
  • Square Marcel Pagnol (8th arrondissement)
  • Square Montholon (9th arrondissement)
  • Chanoine Viollet Square (14th arrondissement)
  • Georges Brassens Park (15th arrondissement)
  • André Citroën Park (15th arrondissement)
  • Clichy-Batignolles – Martin Luther King Jr. Park (17th arrondissement)

The town is putting in place appropriate surveillance to ensure safety in these areas in the evening and at night.
