Bison Futé: red traffic in Île-de-France on July 18 and 19, how to avoid traffic jams

From this Friday, July 18, 2025, traffic is expected to be very heavy from the Île-de-France region, according to Bison Futé forecasts. The organization classifies the day as red in the direction of departure, as it does on Saturday July 19. We take a look at the forecasts and how to avoid traffic jams.

We're going to have to be extra vigilant this weekend. Traffic looks set to be tough for this fourth weekend of major vacation departures. According to Bison Futé, Friday July 18 and Saturday July 19, 2025 are classified as red at national level, particularly in the departure direction. In the Île-de-France region, traffic density will start to be felt from late morning on Friday.

Which roads should be avoided on Friday, July 18?

Friday is initially classified as a red day throughout France. In the Île-de-France region, the A6 and A10 freeways will be among the most congested, particularly around toll booths. Bison Futé recommends leaving the region before 10am or after 10pm.

At national level, it is advisable to avoid :

  • theA2 between Combles and Belgium (1pm-7pm),

  • theA31 between Nancy and Luxembourg (11am-7pm),

  • theA10 between Paris and Bordeaux at peak times,

  • theA63 between Bordeaux and Bayonne (2pm-8pm),

  • theA7 between Lyon and Marseille (several segments between 2pm and 7pm),

  • theA46 and RN346 around Lyon (11am-7pm),

  • Mont-Blanc tunnel (11am-8pm).

And in the return direction?

Southern routes such as theA9,A8,A57 andA50 will also see heavy traffic, particularly between 5pm and 8pm. TheA7 andA54 will also be heavily disrupted between noon and 8pm.

What's the forecast for Saturday, July 19?

On Saturday, traffic will once again be very heavy from dawn onwards. The Île-de-France region will be affected from the early hours of the morning, with traffic intensifying rapidly on the radial and ring roads leading to the A6 and A10 freeways. Bison Futé recommends leaving the region before 5am or after 4pm.

Elsewhere in France, avoid :

  • theA11 between Le Mans and Angers (2pm-4pm),

  • the RN165 between Nantes and Quimper (4pm-6pm),

  • theA10,A63,A7 andA9 at different times depending on the section,

  • Mont-Blanc tunnel (7am-6pm).

And the Saturday returns?

Motorists returning north are also affected. High-traffic areas include :

  • theA11 between Nantes and Paris (10am-2pm),

  • the RN165 between Quimper and Nantes (11am-1pm),

  • the A9, A8 and A7 Mediterranean routes,

  • theA54 and RN113 between Nîmes and Salon-de-Provence (10am-3pm).

Traffic is classified as green in both directions throughout the Ile-de-France region. If you can, this is the best day to drive.
