Public transportation in Paris and Île-de-France will face disruptions during the Christmas holidays from December 22 to 28, 2025. Several lines of the metro, RER, Transilien, and tramway operated by RATP and SNCF will experience interruptions. Here’s what you need to know.

Public transportation in Paris and Île-de-France remains busy during the Christmas holidays. From Monday, December 22 to Sunday, December 28, 2025, several metro, RER, Transilien, and tram lines will experience disruptions due to ongoing maintenance work. The RATP and SNCF are taking advantage of the school holidays to continue infrastructure projects, especially in the evenings. If you're planning to travel during the festivities to see family and friends, make sure to check the schedules carefully. Here’s a rundown of all the service interruptions during this festive week.

Which metro and tram lines will be disrupted during the holiday season?

On the Paris metro network, only one line remains affected:

  • Line 1: On Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28, access to Tuileries station will be closed from 4:00 PM to 11:45 PM. This closure, which has been in place since the beginning of the month, will continue throughout the Christmas holiday to better manage the influx of visitors to the Christmas market.

On the tramway front, long-lasting service disruptions continue to affect commuters:

  • T1: Train service remains suspended between Asnières-Quatre Routes and Gare de Saint-Denis, with ongoing disruptions across the rest of the line due to damage caused by a third party at L'Île-Saint-Denis. Regular service is not expected to resume until summer 2026.

  • T2: Until the end of February 2026, train travel is currently halted between Porte de Versailles and Suzanne Lenglen due to modernization works. To travel from Suzanne Lenglen to Porte de Versailles, walk to the Balard station on the T3a line.

What disruptions can travelers expect on the RER during the Christmas week?

The RER lines are experiencing some disruptions, mainly affecting the RER C and D lines:

  • RER C: On Sunday, December 28th, starting at 11:45 PM, service will be suspended between Paris Austerlitz and Dourdan/Saint-Martin-d'Étampes. Replacement buses will be provided. Until January 11th, the station at Issy towards Dourdan-la-Forêt, Saint-Martin-d'Étampes, and Massy-Palaiseau will be out of service due to ongoing track works. On Christmas Day, December 25th, from 11:45 PM, service will be halted between Dourdan and Gare d'Austerlitz, as well as between Saint-Martin-d'Étampes and Gare d'Austerlitz. Replacement buses will operate even on Christmas Day.

  • RER D: From Monday, December 22nd to Friday, December 26th, starting at 11:35 PM, service will be interrupted between Paris Gare du Nord and Creil. Replacement buses will run due to railway maintenance work. From Monday to Friday until December 24th, starting at 11:30 PM, service is suspended between Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon. On Friday, December 26th, service will be halted between Gare de Lyon and Gare du Nord from 11:30 PM onwards due to track works. Additionally, from December 22nd to December 28th inclusive, starting at 10:30 PM, stops at Maisons-Alfort-Alfortville, Le Vert de Maisons, Créteil Pompadour, and Villeneuve Triage will be out of service because of ongoing construction work.

Which Transilien lines will be affected this Christmas week?

The Transilien network will keep some maintenance work going during the holiday season, mainly on two lines:

  • Line J: On Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th of December, from 10:40 PM onwards, replacement buses will operate between Sartrouville and Les Mureaux, as well as between Sartrouville and Mantes-la-Jolie, serving intermediate stations due to maintenance work. From Monday the 22nd to Friday the 26th of December (except December 25th), starting at 8:40 PM, service will be suspended from Issou Porcheville towards Mantes-la-Jolie. On Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd of December, from 9:55 PM, trains will be temporarily halted between Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and Pontoise.

  • Line R: On Monday the 22nd, Tuesday the 23rd, Wednesday the 24th, and Friday the 26th of December, starting at 11:45 PM, service will be interrupted between Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons and Montargis due to ongoing works.

How to Plan Your Travel During the Christmas Holidays

This week, the Île-de-France transit network is expected to run quite smoothly, with only minor disruptions compared to previous weeks. If you're planning to go out during the holidays, most outages will occur mainly late in the evening after 10 PM. For daytime travel, it's still a good idea to check real-time updates on the Bonjour RATP and SNCF Connect apps, as schedules could change during the holiday period.

In short, the week from December 22 to 28, 2025, sees a brief lull in the major construction works across the Île-de-France network. Nevertheless, RATP and SNCF are still carrying out some essential projects, mainly during the evenings, to limit disruptions during the holiday season. Also note that even on December 25, Christmas Day, replacement buses will be running on the RER C line to ensure service continuity.
