On December 13, the Île-de-France region marked a historic moment with the opening of its very first urban cable car. Serving five stations along a 4.5-kilometre route, the Câble C1 seems to have won over Francilians. Since its inauguration, the first cable car in Île-de-France has already carried one million passengers! A symbolic milestone was crossed on March 30, as revealed by Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) on its social channels. "It's as if the entire city of Ottawa rode it in just 3 months, it's a lot of fun!", the post notes with humor.
“We are counting between 9,000 and 10,000 travelers per day, which is very close to our 11,000 estimate,” IDFM said in an interview with the Parisien.
As the transport authority notes, the Câble C1 lets passengers travel from Créteil to Villeneuve-Saint-Georges in 18 minutes (compared with 30 to 50 minutes by car), thanks to ten-seat cabins that operate every 30 seconds during peak hours.
Beyond the speed of this new Île-de-France transport option, passengers are also enjoying the views over the surrounding area and the four Val-de-Marne municipalities it passes through for the occasion: Créteil, Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton, and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.
