Back-to-school allowance

From August 1, parents on modest incomes should receive the back-to-school allowance. This allowance enables families to buy the supplies, clothing or equipment their children need for the new school year. The state pays €398.09 for children aged 6 to 10, €420.06 for young people aged 11 to 14, and €434.60 for older children aged 15 to 18.

Increase in electricity prices

Electricity prices are set to rise by 10% from August 1. This increase affects households, as well as small businesses and craftsmen. It is the first stage in the gradual end of the tariff shield, introduced at the end of 2021 to combat inflation. The total end of this shield is scheduled for the end of 2024.

This measure is presented as an ecological action to reduce waste production. Receipts will no longer be printed automatically after each purchase. However, it is still possible to request them. In certain scenarios, the receipt will continue to be printed automatically: this is the case for restaurants, hotels, purchases including a guarantee (for household appliances, for example), for a cancellation of the payment transaction, or for a service invoiced at more than 25 euros.

Although the cash register receipt, printed automatically after every purchase in a store, was due to be banned in France on January 1, 2023, the measure was subsequently postponed several times. The government finally decided to postpone its effective date for a third time, to August 1, 2023. [Read more]

Savings account rates

Savings account rates have been recalculated. The Livret d'Epargne Populaire has been raised from 6.1% to 6%. The Livret A rate remains unchanged at 3%, whereas it should have been increased to 4.1%. Bruno Le Maire insists that this freeze will avoid more costly borrowing rates for individuals.
