Despite a wetter and cooler July, the severe and prolonged heatwave experienced by Paris and its inner suburbs in June triggered a drought alert. Find out what this means for you.

June' s heatwave was harsh on both human organisms and nature. And despite a much more... refreshing July, which brought plenty of rain, drought is still a concern for the capital and its region. Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Val-de-Marne and Seine-Saint-Denis have been placed on high alert due to the hydrometeorological situation.

In fact, the departments concerned are facing a rainfall deficit of almost 80% in June, abnormally dry soils and violent storms withno water infiltration. This has led to a significant drop in river levels, particularly in the Marne and Seine rivers, on which many uses depend, which have now fallen below their vigilance thresholds.

Each prefect has issued a decree defining the awareness-raising and monitoring measures already in place, and calling on users to use water sparingly and rationally. In general, drought watch does not imply any restrictive measures, but aims to raise awareness of actions to be taken: avoid letting water run, use washing machines at full capacity, limit watering of gardens, install water-saving equipment, etc.

The VigiEau website provides information on possible restrictions in your town. These recommendations apply equally to private individuals, industry, local authorities and agriculture, who need to optimize their water consumption.
