Notre-Dame de Paris: 840 million euros raised for restoration work

The reconstruction of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris requires large sums of money: nearly 840 million euros in donations have been collected, announced General Jean-Louis Georgelin, president of the Établissement Public chargé de la reconstruction, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

More and more donations for Notre-Dame."The surge of generosity" to finance the reconstruction work on Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris"is not drying up", announced this Wednesday, September 22, 2021, General Jean-Louis Georgelin, President of the Établissement public in charge of rebuilding the thousand-year-old edifice: over 840 million euros in donations have been collected. These donations have come from both French and foreign donors.

The man in charge of rebuilding Notre-Dame de Paris believes that this substantial sum"allows us to look to the future with confidence", he told the Senate's Cultural Affairs Committee. The senators questioned Jean-Louis Georgelin about the progress of the project and the"transparency" of the financing. More precisely, of the 842.8 million euros raised,"theFondation Notre-Dame has collected nearly 360 million, the Fondation du Patrimoine 232 million, including 100 million from Total, the Fondation de France 31 million, the Centre des Monuments Nationaux 7.8 million, the Ministry of Culture nearly 9 million and the public establishment, which receives several direct donations, notably from the Fondation Bettencourt, 203 million", explains the general.

For the time being, no details have been released on the distribution of the large sum collected. Details will be given "once things have been finalized with the project management". Today,"most of the invitations to tender for the restoration work have been issued, and the first winners have been selected", says the general. A priori, the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral will take place in 2024, as originally scheduled. The redevelopment of the cathedral's surroundings, its"setting", is"the responsibility of Paris City Hall", which will present the various projects in this area next week, on Monday September 27, 2021.
