October 1, 2023 marks the coming into force of a number of reforms in France, affecting such diverse areas as benefits, gas prices, personalized housing assistance (APL) and even the composition of bread. We take a look at all the changes that will affect the French, especially those living in the Paris region.

October is just around the corner! And we might as well tell you right away that October has a number of new features and changes in store for us, including gas rates, housing subsidies, bread composition and changes to the PEL ceiling. A whole range of regulatory and legislative updates are in the pipeline. We take stock of these changes, which will influence the daily lives of the French.

Salt reduction in bread

Starting this Sunday, the salt content of bread will be reduced in line with commitments made by the bakery industry. This readjustment aims to reduce excessive salt consumption, which is responsible for various health problems, notably cardiovascular, as highlighted by the World Health Organization.

Rising gas prices

Unlike bread, the gas bill will be "saltier". A significant increase is expected, stemming from the rise in wholesale prices after a steady decline in the spring and summer of 2023.

Individualization of the Allocation Adulte Handicapé (AAH)

The AAH will now be deconjugalized, a relief for many recipients. This individualization is a major step forward that will enable around 80,000 more people to benefit from this assistance.

Revaluation of housing assistance

The APL will be increased by 3.5% in mainland France, a reform that will undoubtedly help ease the burden of housing expenses for many.

Changes to the ceiling of the Livret d'Épargne Populaire (LEP) savings account

The LEP ceiling will be raised from €7,700 to €10,000, an opportunity for modest households to save more.

Changes to dental care reimbursements

A reduction in Social Security reimbursements for dental care is also to be noted, increasing the out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

Advance of Covid-19 Vaccination

Initially scheduled for October 17, the vaccination will be brought forward to October 2 for the most vulnerable and those around them, as announced by the Minister of Health.

Time change at the end of October

Although not immediate, the switch to winter time is another change to look forward to at the end of the month.

Leclerc and Carrefour launch fuel at cost price

Fuel at cost price: this is the motto of the E.Leclerc and Carrefour banners from this Friday, September 29, 2023. It's a civic commitment in the face of rising prices at the pump, underlining the retailers' refusal to sell at a loss as proposed by the government. But what exactly is the situation in Île-de-France?

In short, these are the reforms and new features that will take effect on October 1, 2023. These adjustments, though varied, have one thing in common: they impact your daily life.
