We're off to a flying start: the 30th edition ofOctober Rose, the worldwide campaign to combat breast cancer, has been launched. For one month, from October 1 to 31, 2023, everyone is invited to support research, get screened and listen to women fighting breast cancer.
More than 70 countries take part in the Pink October event, and the operation helps fund 250 medical projects every year, thanks to the $76 million raised worldwide.
Pink October is an indispensable event. Breast cancer " is the most common cancer in France and the leading cause of cancer-related death in women ", says the Ligue contre le cancer. While significant progress has been made in medical research and quality of life for sufferers over the last few decades, it is absolutely essential to continue the fight against the disease. One woman in eight is at risk of developing breast cancer. But that's not all: men are also affected by this disease, even if they are less numerous. Every year, early detection saves thousands of lives.
We must therefore continue our research efforts and alert men and women to this cancer, which can affect people of any age: yes, 10% of breast cancer cases are in women under 35, and 1% in men. This year, let'sall be "united by the same color" to help fight the disease.
