The announcement made by Michel-Edouard Leclerc, head of the E.Leclerc group, on the X platform, specifies that from September 29, the 750 service stations of Leclerc hypermarkets will adopt the principle of daily cost price, marking a break with the one-off operations carried out previously, notably in 2021. However, the company's official website lists a total of 696 stations, and notes that some will not be taking part in the initiative.
Exceptions in Île-de-France:
Please note that the two Leclerc stores in Paris do not offer a fuel service.
Carrefour also made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), calling the move"the biggest fuel sales operation at cost in our history". The special feature here is the absence of exceptions.
Carrefour's commitment:
Système U, which is less represented in the Île-de-France region, is also expressing a willingness to act, albeit in a more moderate way. Its boss, Dominique Schelcher, is planning special "operations", but is ruling out a permanent cost price.
Leclerc and Carrefour are thus positioning themselves as forerunners in supporting consumer purchasing power in the face of fuel price inflation. Customers in the Île-de-France region will be able to benefit from these advantageous rates, with a few exceptions at Leclerc.
This initiative reflects a real awareness on the part of the major players in the retail sector. It's a fine demonstration of social responsibility, offering welcome relief to motorists. It's a measure that we hope will inspire other chains to follow suit, for a wider impact.
All in all, the announcement of fuel at cost at Leclerc and Carrefour appears to be a breath of fresh air for all, and we can only recommend that consumers seize this opportunity to pay less, especially in these uncertain economic times.
