The Paris-Saclay University is not the only French school to be part of the ranking, since three more colleges, all in Paris, are part of the top 100 world’s best colleges.

Let us name the PSL University (Paris Sciences & Lettres). The college that gathers several higher schools, including the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) ranks 40th of this year’s ranking. Although the university has lost two places in a year, it is still second on the domestic podium.

As for the Sorbonne University, it tumbles 8 places and ends up 43rd of the ranking, as the Paris-Cité University ranks 78th in 2022.

As for the rest, the ranking also lists the Aix-Marseille University, the Grenoble-Alpes University and the Strasbourg University.

But then, how is the world’s best universities ranking made? The Chinese consultant company Shanghai Ranking relies on several criteria such as the number of Nobel and Fields medals given to graduates and teachers, or even the number of publications in the prestigious Science and Nature magazines.
