The extension of the RER E to the west should connect the Saint-Lazare station to the Nanterre-La Folie station by 2024. To reach Mantes-la-Jolie, however, it will be necessary to wait until 2025.

The new schedule for the RER E extension has just been unveiled: by 2024 the line should link Saint-Lazare station to Nanterre-La Folie station, just in time for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The extension aims to relieve the RER A line of 10 to 15% of traffic.

After delays were announced on September 13, SNCF Réseau director Luc Lallemand acknowledged that the deadlines would not be met because of a "financial slippage" of 1.7 billion euros. This is already the third change in the schedule, since the delivery of this extension of the RER E was initially scheduled for December 2022 before being postponed to the second half of 2023.

The Eole project, which focuses on extending the RER E to the west, consists of extending the current RER line E by 55 km to the west of Paris. To achieve this, the project involves the creation of 8 km of additional tunnels between Saint-Lazare and Nanterre-la Folie, 47 km of upgrades to existing tracks as far as Mantes-la-Jolie, as well as three new stations: Porte Maillot, CNI-La Défense and Nanterre-La Folie.

Xavier Gruz, the director of the Eole project, indicated this week in the program Parigo, the magazine dedicated to transportation in Île-de-France, that the infrastructure should be completed by 2023 for the "commissioning of the project". However, it will be necessary to wait until 2024 for the final operation of the entire system. " The objective is to be ready for the Olympic Games, " says the Eole project director. The first part of the extension will then be completed and the work will remain to be done for the arrival of the trains at Mantes-la-Jolie station. For this service, the people of Ile-de-France will have to wait another year, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2025.
