The Paris metro is so vast that many hidden connections are concealed throughout the network. And the longest connection isn't even indicated in the metro, at Saint-Augustin station on line 9!

The Parismetro is one of the largest underground transport networks in the world. It's only natural that a few mysteries should lurk in this immense expanse of tunnels... And among the ghostly stations you'll find some that are very real, but sometimes linked by paths that are nowhere to be seen! For example, you can get off at Saint-Augustin station, on line 9, and walk all the way to Saint-Lazare station, without even breathing the outside air! In fact, it's the longest connection on the Paris metro!

Saint-Augustin station is located under boulevard Haussmann, between Miromesnil and Havre-Caumartin, close to Saint-Lazare on the surface. But it turns out that it's also partially connected to it underground. And yet, on the metro train, only line 14 is indicated as the connecting line! In fact, in December 2003, the first extension of line 14 from Madeleine to the Paris station called for the construction of an underground corridor with Saint-Augustin, to improve service to Saint-Lazare and add a connecting line.

So, while the 14 and 9 connect very quickly, it's a much longer walk to the other connecting lines, the 3, 12 and 13. That's why they're not indicated in the metro, especially as more direct connections to the 3 and 13 are possible at the surrounding stations. It's even possible to get to Opéra this way, via other corridors! Almost a kilometer long, this continuity of underground connections makes it the longest in the Paris metro. A bit sporty, but very practical!
