Claude Sarraute, a woman of letters and emblematic journalist for "Le Monde", died on Monday night at the age of 95. She joined the newspaper in 1953 and ran the "Sur le vif" column for almost 10 years. She also worked alongside Laurent Ruquier on "Les grosses têtes" on RTL, as well as on his TV shows. A look back at an extraordinary career.

A leading figure in the world of journalism has passed away. Claude Sarraute, daughter of Nathalie Sarraute, the leading writer of the Nouveau Roman movement, and lawyer Raymond Sarraute, died on Tuesday June 20, 2023. Claude Sarraute, aged 95, was a leading figure in French journalism, as well as a novelist. Her death was announced by her family, according to AFP.

Claude Sarraute, born in Paris in 1927, wrote for the newspaper Le Monde for almost 35 years, where she edited the Sur le vif column. She joined the newspaper in 1953, and quickly became one of its"grande plumes", as Le Monde explains. Initially a cultural journalist, then a television columnist with Laurent Ruquier on On a tout essayé, Claude Sarraute has always stood out for her light-hearted yet honest, often non-conformist tone. Having studied at the Sorbonne, she grew up in an intellectual environment, but never lost her taste for humor.

However, her career was not confined to her activities as a journalist and columnist: Claude Sarraute was also a key voice on RTL' s Les grosses têtes until 2018. On Europe 1, she took part in On va s'gêner between 2000 and 2014, once again alongside Laurent Ruquier, and was also heard on France Inter in Rien à cirer.

Claude Sarraute will leave her mark on her generation with her symbolic pen and particularly sincere, funny tone.
