Just an hour from Paris, you'll find two of France's most beautiful villages. At least, that's the opinion of Le Routard, which has compiled a list of the 50 most beautiful villages in France to mark its 50th anniversary. And in this selection, Parisians will be surprised to discover La Roche-Guyon, a magnificent village in the Val d'Oise.
In fact, it's the only village in France to have been awarded the title of"Most Beautiful Village in France". Best known for its imposing medieval château, La Roche-Guyon invites you to take a trip back in time, with an impressive view over the Seine.
The second is Moret-sur-Loing, a village almost perched on the water . This medieval town boasts a magnificent church and an Impressionist setting that has inspired many artists, including Alfred Sisley . Here, too, you'll find a complete change of scenery, as the village has preserved its medieval fortifications. It's also known as the factory of barley sugar, a delicacy that has been ultra-popular for centuries.
