Because the City of Paris is committed to supporting animal welfare, the Animal House officially opened its doors on February 4, 2025. Located in Bercy Park, the center is designed for everyone interested in learning more about animals, whether they are pets or wild creatures. Following a unanimously approved motion by the Paris City Council, the Animal House was renamed the “Animal House in the City – Jane Goodall” in tribute to the renowned English primatologist and animal advocate, who passed away on October 1, 2025.

Several major projects have been unveiled in Paris in 2025: a press drawing house, a memorial garden, new urban forests, and also a house for animals. Located within the Bercy Park— not far from the hedgehog care center in Bois de Vincennes— this Animal House officially opened its doors on February 4, 2025. Through this new venue, the City of Paris aims to better engage residents with the animals they encounter in urban life, both domestic and wild.

The Animal House offers visitors a chance to strengthen the bonds between humans and animals, while also promoting their care and protection. It emphasizes adopting best practices for living harmoniously with our animal companions.

Note that the site has been renamed "Animal House in the City - Jane Goodall" following a unanimous vote by the Paris City Council. This renaming serves as a tribute to the renowned British primatologist and animal rights advocate, who passed away on October 1, 2025.

So, what does the Jane Goodall City Animal House have to offer? The facility includes a veterinary care clinic with drop-in hours on Thursdays, specifically targeting individuals experiencing financial hardship or homelessness.

To raise awareness about animal welfare, the Maison de l’animal en ville-Jane Goodall also hosts a variety of educational activities: dog and cat training workshops, themed temporary exhibitions, lectures, and school as well as after-school programs.

Finally, to promote animal protection, dialogue and debate spaces are organized around topics such as abandonment and abuse, in close collaboration with several associations.

Note that the Maison de l’animal en ville-Jane Goodall, which is of course open to pets, is not open year-round. It welcomes visitors during the first week of each month, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
