No, this road in Hauts-de-Seine will not be closed for roadworks from March 3 to 21, 2025. The route de Versailles, located in the Malmaison state forest, is closed to traffic from 7pm to 7am, due to the migration of toads! These small amphibians, which reappear in early spring after hiding out all winter, come to resettle in the woods andpond of Saint-Cucufa, but road traffic is threatening them.
They have to cross roads to get around, but in doing so risk being run over by cars, which often happens and worries their existence, which is why they are protected in France. In some communes, their presence is signalled by signs, or special arrangements are made under the road to enable them to cross safely. The town of Rueil-Malmaison, for its part, has chosen to give them all night to transhumance efficiently.
An unusual reason for closing a road, but an important one for preserving biodiversity in the area, which is largely planted with trees.
